Yearlings For Sale

This week saw the commencement of the Tattersalls Yearling Sale Book 2, and, as always, it proved to be a very strong sale with plenty of well bred horses on offer but, thanks to a fantastic team effort; we managed to compile a list of what we thought were some of the best horses available. Once again, it proved pretty hard to compete with the big guns of the industry; however, we were able to purchase some very good looking horses that are now also looking for some owners.

Just a few lots in to the beginning of Day 1 we managed to secure two very different but equally exciting horses. Lot 517 is a High Chaparral colt that comes from a strong family proven in both New Zealand and Australia. His sire has a fantastic stud record in both hemispheres with the likes of So You Think, Toronado and Free Eagle amongst many others flying his banner around the world. We are delighted that, at present, his breeder has decided to retain 25% of him, and there are still shares available in this exciting prospect.

Lot 518 has a very different profile as he is by the speedy Zebedee and, therefore, is likely to be a more precocious sort next year. He comes from an excellent nursery in Tally-Ho Stud, who also stands his sire, and he caught our eye from the very beginning. Zebedee is the sire of multiple Group winner and dual Guineas placed Ivawood. He is also the sire the 108 rated Magical Memory who put in a blistering performance to take the 2015 Qatar Steward’s Cup at Goodwood. He is a correct, strong and solid colt with a wonderful presence and lovely fluid walk. He is bigger in size and scopier than the usual Zebedees we have seen and just like Ivawood was as a yearling. We were lucky enough to snatch him for 45,000gns and thrilled to have him as part of our string for next year.

Lot 1110 (pictured) went through the ring quite late on Day 2 and, despite the long day, we were there in order to ensure we did not miss any opportunity. Our perseverance paid off and the hammer fell in our favour for 68,000gns. He is out a winning Rainbow Quest mare and, although she is still quite young, she has already produced two winners. He is a very good walker and an attractive individual which made it worth going a little bit over our intended budget for him. His sire, Rock of Gibraltar, is a very consistent stallion having produced top class performers such as Eagle Mountain, Mount Nelson and Society Rock. We have enjoyed success with his progeny this year, courtesy of the 100 rated Ayaar and the very promising two year old filly Farandine. Further down his pedigree is filled with black type with his third dam being Coronation Stakes heroine Magic of Life who left a huge legacy behind her including the multiple Group winning Enthused amongst many more Stakes winners.
